§ 02 — Become Forest and nature technician
Overview
As a forest and nature technician you work in the forest and outdoors in nature. You plant and fell trees care for forests and nature and help care for wildlife and landscape. When you are done you are skilled in a trade where the workplace is Danish nature and where you help manage and protect it for the future.
What do you do in everyday life?
You plant new trees, tend and thin the forest and fell trees when they are ready to become timber or wood chips. You work with the forest's machinery, maintain paths and grounds and help care for natural areas so that both plants and animals thrive. Part of the work is also about nature management and creating good habitats for wildlife. You are outdoors in all kinds of weather, use a chainsaw and large machines, and you learn to read the forest and understand how it develops over time.

How do you get started?
You typically start with a basic course at a vocational school and then need an apprenticeship — for example at a forest district, a private forest owner, or a nature management organization. The education alternates between school stays and practice so you learn the theory and try the practical work in the forest. You get paid during training and learn the trade alongside experienced forest workers.
The way forward
As a finished forest and nature technician you can work in forestry at nature management authorities municipalities and private forest owners. You can specialise in for example forest machinery or nature management become a foreman or work independently. If you want to continue the trade can be a stepping stone to further education in forestry nature and environment.
