§ 02 — Become EUX
EUX is for you who won't choose between craft and books—you take both. EUX combines vocational education with upper secondary education so you end up with both a journeyman certificate in a trade and a higher education entrance qualification. You become professionally qualified in a craft and at the same time have access to further education.
§What do you do in everyday life?
On EUX, you alternate between the practical and the academic. You learn your trade in the workshop and on the job at a workplace, and at the same time you follow gymnasium subjects at a higher level than in an ordinary vocational education. In practice, this means that one day can be about solving a concrete professional task with your hands, while another is about mathematics, Danish, or other study-preparing subjects. It requires that you like both the practical and the theoretical – but that is precisely what makes EUX strong.
- 01You get two things at once: a journeyman certificate and a high school diploma.
- 02You become a skilled worker in a real craft and can go straight to work as a journeyman.
- 03You keep doors open to further education if you want to study further later.
- 04You combine practical skills with academic knowledge — a profile many employers value.
- 05You don't need to choose between being a craftsman and having study competence.
§How do you get started?
EUX is taken as part of a vocational education and is offered on a range of vocational educations. You typically start with a basic course at a vocational school and then continue with a program where you are both in apprenticeship/practice and follow upper secondary subjects. Because it is tied to a vocational education, you receive a wage as a student during the part of the program where you are apprenticed. Which subjects can be taken as EUX and how the program is structured depends on the education you choose—so investigate it at the school and within the subject area you are interested in.
§Way forward
With an EUX you stand with several paths open at the same time. You can go directly out and work as a skilled worker with your journeyman's certificate you can stay in the trade and later build on with courses or self-employment or you can use your secondary school diploma to apply for higher education. It is precisely the flexibility that is the point: you do not need to have decided finally but have secured yourself opportunities regardless of what you choose.
“EUX is for you who refuses to choose either hands or head—and would rather have both.”
