What is EUX? Journeyman certificate and school leaving exam in one

EUX is an education that gives you the best from two worlds: you become professionally qualified with a journeyman certificate AND get a higher education entrance qualification that gives access to further education. With EUX, you therefore don't have to choose between a practical craft education and an academic secondary path—you get both.

Many young people are good with their hands and want to learn a trade but at the same time want to keep the door open to higher education. EUX is created precisely for them. You take an ordinary vocational education — for example as a carpenter electrician mechanic cook or office-trained — and on top you add secondary subjects at a level corresponding to a student examination.

EUX is available within a broad range of vocational educations—both technical trades and commercial (business and office) educations. Which specific subjects are possible depends on what each vocational school offers, but the range is large: construction and civil works, metal and engineering, food, electrical and IT, transport, and business and office.

In an ordinary vocational education (EUD), the focus is on the profession itself, and the general subjects are kept at a basic level. On EUX, the general subjects — typically Danish, English, mathematics, and profession-relevant natural science or social science subjects — are raised to gymnasium level, so together they form a higher secondary education certificate alongside the journeyman's certificate.
