As a dental clinic assistant you are the dentist's indispensable right hand. You assist during dental treatments and help the clinic function. The training makes you a skilled worker who can both stand by the chair during treatment and manage the practical side so the patient is in safe hands.

§What do you do in everyday life?

You receive patients, prepare the treatment room and instruments, and assist the dentist during treatment by handing over instruments and keeping track. You work with hygiene and sterilization, help with X-rays, guide patients in dental care, and help plan appointments and manage the clinic's daily operations.

  • 01You learn to professionally assist in dental treatment.
  • 02You get knowledge about hygiene, sterilization, and patient safety.
  • 03You become good at creating safety for nervous patients.
  • 04You get a versatile job with both technical and practical content.
  • 05You work in a fixed and calm work environment with fixed parameters.
  • 06You get a trade where there is a need for skilled assistants at clinics across the country.

§How do you get started?

You typically start with a basic course at a vocational school and then enter an education agreement with a dental clinic. As a student you alternate between school and practice and get paid during training while learning the trade at a real clinic alongside dentists and colleagues.

§Way forward

With your education, you can work at private clinics, in municipal dental care and at specialist clinics. With experience and further training, you can specialise further or take the step towards e.g. dental hygienist, and you become part of a professional field with stable job opportunities.

The best dental treatment is the one the patient barely notices – because the team around the chair knows exactly what they're doing.
