§ 02 — Become Social and health assistant
As a social and health assistant you are a central part of the healthcare system. You care for and treat citizens and patients keep an eye on their health and help them through illness and daily life. The training makes you a skilled professional who can both provide nursing care and be the close reassuring support for people who need help.
§What do you do in everyday life?
Your day is about people and their health. You help with personal care administer medication and watch how the resident is doing. You document your observations cooperate with nurses and doctors and are often the one who knows the resident best. You meet people in vulnerable situations and give them both professional care and human compassion.

§How do you get started?
You start with a basic course at a vocational school and then find a practical placement, often through a municipality or region, where you enter an education agreement. The course alternates between school stays and practice at, for example, care homes, hospitals, or in home care, and you get paid during training. Many build on top of the social and health care assistant education.
§The way forward
As a social and health assistant you can work in hospitals nursing homes in home care or in psychiatry. You can specialise in for example dementia psychiatry or rehabilitation and you have a strong foundation if you want to study further to become a nurse or another health profession.
