As a crane driver you lift and move heavy loads with large cranes — at construction sites ports and industrial areas. You become the one who gets concrete elements steel beams and machinery safely up and in place often many metres up. It is a responsible trade where precision and calm determine whether the lift succeeds.

§What do you do in everyday life?

Your day is spent in the cab of a mobile crane tower crane or other lifting machine. You plan the lift assess weight and distance and guide the load smoothly and in control. You work closely with people on the ground who attach the load and give signals and you constantly check that everything is safe for everyone around you.

§How do you get started?

You start with a basic course and find an apprenticeship with, for example, a crane company or a contractor. The main course alternates between school and practical training, and you receive an apprentice wage while you learn the trade. You must also obtain the necessary certificates to operate a crane, and you get these as part of the programme.

§The way forward

As fully trained you can work for crane companies contractors ports and industrial companies. With experience and multiple certificates you can operate larger and more specialised cranes and take on the most demanding lifting tasks.
