On film and TV production education, you learn to make moving images from idea to finished program. You work with camera, sound, lighting, and editing and are involved all the way — on set, in the studio, and in the editing room. You become part of the team that gets films, series, advertisements, and TV to end up on the screen.

§What do you do in everyday life?

The day can be spent rigging equipment for a shoot, operating camera or sound, setting lights or sitting cutting the footage together afterward. You work closely with a production team where everyone has a role and where the pace is often high when shooting is running.

§How do you get started?

You start with a basic course and then find an apprenticeship with a production company, a TV station, or a company that makes video. You get apprentice wages along the way, and the education alternates between school stays and practice so you get both the technique and experience from real productions.

§The way forward

With the journeyman's certificate you can work as for example photographer sound or light technician editor or production assistant in film tv and video industry. Many specialise over time in one field and if you want to go further you can aim for film and media education at a higher level.
