Education agreements and school training on EUX.
Ordinary training agreement
The main course on a eux requires as a starting point a training agreement: a written, legally binding agreement between you and a company that is approved to train apprentices in your trade. The agreement is your employment certificate and your guarantee of training, wages, and school periods. But 'a training agreement' is not just one thing — according to the Ministry of Education there are several types of agreements, and it is worth knowing them, as they open different doors.
§Agreement types
| Agreement type | What does it cover | Typically used when |
|---|---|---|
| System | The entire rest of the education in one company | The company can and will take the entire course |
| Short training agreement | At least one training period and one school period | The company does not want to commit to the entire course |
| Combination agreement | Multiple companies share the course with each partial agreement | One company cannot cover all areas of the trade |
| Part agreement during school training | A limited training period with one company... | You are in school training and need to gain workplace experience |
| New apprenticeship (EUD) | Practical training in the company replaces most of the basic course | Primarily a vocational education path — at upper secondary schools the academic subjects must still be studied at school |
For you as an eux-student the point is double: partly your first agreement does not need to cover the entire education — a short agreement can be a foot in the door which is later extended — partly you are allowed to put together your main course from several agreements with several companies. Many students end up with exactly that: a short agreement that is extended or two companies that complement each other.
§How to apply: lærepladsen.dk and job work
UVM's portal lærepladsen.dk is the official meeting place for students and businesses: here you can see which businesses are approved to train in your education, and who has posted vacant apprenticeships. But the portal is only half the work. Most agreements are made through direct contact: an application, a phone call, a visit to the business — or contact from a part-time job or bridging course. The school's apprenticeship consultants know the local market and can open doors; use them.
- 01Create a visible profile on lærepladsen.dk, and keep it updated
- 02Search broadly: companies without ads can also be contacted
- 03Highlight upper secondary in your application — many companies see upper secondary subjects as a strength
- 04Follow up on applications after a week and ask for feedback on rejections
- 05Remember the trial period: the first three months of the agreement are a trial period during which both parties can terminate without notice — school periods do not count
§School training: the net under you
If you don't find an apprenticeship after the basic course, you are not necessarily stranded. Many educations are offered with school training: school-based training in a training center where the school provides the training the company would otherwise give — often combined with partial agreements and short agreements in real companies along the way. Be aware that not all educations have school training; check your education's terms on UG.dk or with the school.
§PLACEHOLDER_33
With a training agreement you are employed: you get apprentice wages according to your industry's collective agreement — both in training periods and during school stays in the main course — and are covered by working time regulations and occupational environment law. The company receives in return wage refunds from Employers' Education Contribution (AUB) when you are in school so your school periods are not a pure expense for them. In school training you do not get wages but a school training allowance. The specific rates are set in collective agreements and by the state and adjusted continuously — check the current figures with your professional organisation or school rather than relying on old postings.
“An apprenticeship is not just a piece of paper — it is the contract that transforms you from applicant to colleague.”
