Electrician

As an electrician you work with everything that runs on power. You install connect and repair electricity in houses companies and facilities find faults and ensure everything works and is safe. It is a trade where you must use both your hands and head — and where technology is constantly evolving.

You pull cables, install outlets and panels, and connect everything correctly. You troubleshoot when something doesn't work and work with control and regulation that make systems do exactly what they should. It can be building automation that controls light, heat, and ventilation or communication technology and networks. Some days you're in a private home, other days on a construction site or at a large industrial company.

Most begin on a basic course at a vocational school and then seek an apprenticeship with an electrician or company. The education alternates between school periods and practical work so you learn the theory and use it in reality immediately. You are paid during your training and build experience alongside qualified electricians from day one.

Electricity is everywhere and the need grows with the green transition, smart buildings and automation. With the journeyman certificate you can specialize, become a service technician, work with automation or become an independent installer. If you want to go further, you can build on it with technical advanced training such as high-voltage or installation technician.
