Final check of parking space number

The driver walks through the cabin before departure and notes the registered standing-room number: he reads the sign on the door post and checks that the yellow floor lines mark the standing area — so the bus never exceeds its capacity.

Wheelchair loading with 4-point securing

The driver kneels behind the wheelchair on the marked wheelchair space and secures it with four red cargo straps to mounting eyes in floor and wall while the passenger sits forward-facing with the hip belt on.

As a bus driver you have the responsibility to get people safely forward day after day. You drive route buses, city buses or tourist buses, keep the schedule, help passengers and ensure everyone has a safe journey. You become a skilled driver with control of both the vehicle, traffic and customer service.

§What do you do in everyday life?

A working day starts with checking the bus and driving it out on the route. You follow the schedule, take on passengers, handle ticketing and keep an eye on traffic and weather. You meet many different people every day, and your calm at the wheel and friendliness at the door mean a lot for how the journey is experienced.

  • 01You learn to drive bus safely, economically, and comfortably.
  • 02You learn the rules on driving and rest times and passenger transport
  • 03You learn customer service and how to handle many types of passengers.
  • 04You learn to check and maintain the bus daily.
  • 05You learn first aid and how to act properly in an emergency.
  • 06You learn about traffic safety and defensive driving.

§How do you get started?

You take the education at a vocational school alternating with practice at a bus company and a bus driving license plus the legally required certificates are a central part of the course. You get apprentice wages during training. You must have reached the required age for bus driving and a calm, quiet temperament is an advantage.

§The way forward

As fully trained you can drive route city or tourist buses for bus companies throughout the country. With experience you can become a driving instructor instructor or route planner or switch to other heavy transport if you take the relevant licences.

Thousands of people come to work and go home again — because you get behind the wheel.
