Detailed pages on the bus driver's equipment — tachograph and documents, emergency and safety equipment, accessibility, inspection and operation: use, regulatory reference and what you need to know to use it correctly.
Tachograph & documents
Records driving time, breaks and rest
Digital tachograph with driver card, company card and workshop card. Mandatory in buses covered by the driving-and-rest-time rules; the requirements and operation follow Regulation (EU) 165/2014.
Registration certificate, insurance, driving licence & code 95
A single folder for the documents that must be carried on the bus: registration certificate, proof of insurance, driving licence with code 95 and medical certificate. Exactly what is required on board is found in the current rules.
Safety & emergency equipment
Legally required first-aid equipment on the bus
First-aid kit for the bus with plasters, bandages, sterile compresses, etc. The contents and quantity follow the requirements for the specific bus size — check expiry dates during the departure inspection.
Powder or foam extinguisher — mandatory in buses
Hand-held fire extinguisher (powder/foam) fitted in the bus. Size and quantity depend on the size of the bus and are determined from the applicable regulations; check the seal and the service inspection.
For breaking windows during evacuation
Emergency hammer with a point for breaking side windows during evacuation, often with an integrated seatbelt cutter. Placed visibly by the emergency exits — check that they are in their holders during the pre-departure check.
Marking and visibility in case of breakdown
Warning triangle to mark a stopped vehicle and hi-vis vests for the driver (and any passengers during roadside evacuation). Quantity and requirements follow the applicable rules.
Kilde: generel vejsikkerhedspraksis; vejledende vejledning: Vejdirektoratet.
Accessibility
Step-free access for wheelchair users
Manual fold-out ramp or electric lift for step-free boarding and alighting for wheelchair users. Operation and safe use are part of the disability-awareness training.
4-point lashing + passenger belt
4-point lashing system for securing a wheelchair while driving, supplemented by a passenger belt. Correct securing is part of the disability-awareness training.
Inspection & maintenance
For the daily pre-departure tyre check
Tread-depth gauge and tyre-pressure gauge for the pre-departure check. Read the approved tread depths and correct tyre pressures from the vehicle documentation and applicable regulations — do not make them up yourself.
Lights and indicators in working order before departure
Spare bulbs/LED modules and a routine for checking dipped and main beam, indicators, brake and tail lights at the departure check. Defective lights must be repaired before driving.
AdBlue, washer and coolant fluid
Consumable fluids for daily operation: AdBlue (for the SCR catalyst on diesel buses), screen wash and coolant. Quantities and specification follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Operation & passenger service
Validator and ticketing equipment
Ticketing and validator equipment plus a Rejsekort terminal for passengers' check-in/check-out. Setup and operation follow the transport authority's system.
Line number, destination and real-time info
Destination-sign control and a real-time info display showing the route number, final destination and next stop to passengers. The content is typically driven from the transport authority's operations system.
