Sustainability and green transition is an AMU course area where you learn to make work more climate and environmentally friendly — in practice on the job. The courses are about using less energy and fewer resources handling waste properly and understanding how your industry can become greener. These are courses for people in jobs who want to be part of the transition many companies are in the midst of and which is increasingly demanded by both customers and authorities.

§What do you do on the courses?

Content is connected to which industry you work in. On an energy course you look at how the workplace can cut its energy and resource consumption. Within transport it is about more climate-friendly driving and operation while courses in cleaning and gardening focus on green methods, environmentally friendly products and better resource utilisation. Waste management — sorting correctly and reducing waste — recurs across. Some courses also introduce ESG, which is how companies work with and document environment, social relations and good governance. You mix presentations with practical exercises and examples from your own everyday life.

  • 01You learn to reduce energy and resource consumption in daily work.
  • 02You get on top of waste: sorting, recycling, and reducing waste.
  • 03You learn green transition within your industry – such as transport, cleaning, or gardening.
  • 04You're introduced to ESG and what sustainability means for companies.
  • 05You become an employee who can help make the workplace greener – something that is increasingly in demand.

§How do you get started?

The courses are offered as AMU courses, typically of shorter duration from a single day to a few days. They are aimed at people in the labour market and do not require any specific prior education. You can enrol through your workplace or apply directly to an educational institution offering AMU. As the field is broad, it's worth choosing a course that suits your specific industry — a green course for a driver looks different from one for a gardener or a cleaning assistant.

§Way forward

Sustainability courses build on the trade you already have and make you someone who can take part in the green transition. You can combine multiple green courses to build a broader profile, and you can use them as a springboard to take more responsibility for environment, energy, or waste at your workplace. For some, it becomes the gateway to a specialized role where sustainability is a permanent part of the job.

The green transition does not only happen in spreadsheets in an office – it happens in the hands of those who do the work every day.
