Measure up the area, and work out the number of plants for the bed and hedge from the plant spacing and bond.
How large is the area?
Calculate the area of a rectangle, triangle, circle or trapezoid — and add partial areas together into a composite area. Pure geometry on your own measurements; the starting point for all the other calculators.
How many plants for the bed?
Number of plants from area and plant spacing — square or triangular pattern. A triangular pattern packs about 15.5 % more densely. Pure geometry; the wastage % is your own estimate.
How many plants for the hedge?
Number of hedge plants from hedge length and plant spacing: plants/m = 1 / plant spacing. Species-dependent and not standardised — hence an estimate. Exact when you specify the spacing yourself.
Trade size of nursery trees

How much topsoil for the layer?
Volume = area · layer thickness. NfA 1992 specifies a topsoil layer of 25–40 cm. The net volume is exact; the order volume is multiplied by a guideline settlement factor (loose topsoil settles 20–30 %).
How many m³ — and tonnes — of gravel?
Sub-base volume = area · layer thickness, plus compaction, and converted to tonnes via density. NfA 1992 sets the sub-base (crushed gravel) according to traffic class; compaction and density are guideline values and your own input.
Hvor meget kompost eller jordtilskud til arealet?

How many bricks per m² and in total?
Sten/m² = 1 / ((L+fuge)·(B+fuge)) — ren geometri, ligesom murerens sten/m². Total = areal · sten/m² + svind. Geometrien er eksakt; totalen er overslag pga. fuge (DS 1136: 2–5 mm) og mønster-svind.
Per mille, percent and cm per metre
Convert slope between per mille, percent and cm/m — or find the required height difference for a desired slope. NfA 1992 requires at least 10 ‰ (1 cm/m) for flags/paving stones; the industry recommends 15 ‰ on terraces.
How thick must the layers be?
Byg befæstelsen op lag for lag: overflade, afretning, bærelag og bundsikring efter NfA 1992's trafik-standard A–D og råjordens bæreevne. Standard-tykkelserne er normens egne; bundsikringen regnes som resten, og hvert lag omsættes til m³.
How much sand in the joints?

How much seed for the lawn?
Seed = area · dose. Guideline doses: new sowing ~20–30 g/m², overseeding ~10–25 g/m² (DLF/supplier — NfA does not specify g/m²). Estimate: the dose depends on the seed mix and the season.
How much fertiliser for the area?
Fertiliser = area · dose. Guideline: maintenance ~2–3 kg/100 m² (20–30 g/m²), new establishment ~4 kg/100 m² (DLF). Estimate: depends on the NPK product, soil and use — follow the product's instructions.
