What laws and standards govern electrician work in Denmark, and what is the hierarchy? Here is the overview of the Electrical Safety Act, the Installation Regulation and the DS/HD 60364 series — with the most important changes in 2024 and 2026.
Introduction
Electrical installation work in Denmark is regulated by a hierarchy: the framework law sets the limit, the ordinances specify the requirements, and the standards provide the technical method. If you don't know the hierarchy, you risk working by an outdated rule set.
The Electrical Safety Act.
The Electrical Safety Act (consolidated as LBK no. 57 of 19 January 2026) is the framework law for safety with electrical systems and installations. It establishes among other things requirements for licensing to perform electrical installation work on others' installations. The law is administered by the Business Authority (after merger with the Security Authority as of January 2026) — guidelines are still available on sik.dk. The Installation Regulation (BEK 1082/2016)
BEK no. 1082 of 12 July 2016 remains the current installation regulation. It replaced section 6 of the High Voltage Regulation from 1 July 2017 and requires that new installations are carried out according to the DS/HD 60364 series. (Source: retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2016/1082)
Autorisation og KLS — BEK 722 og 725 (2024)
Two new decrees from June 2024 tightened requirements for authorized electrical companies:
- 01BEK 722/2024: Authorization and operation. The technical responsible (TA) must work at least 30 hours per week in the company.
- 02BEK 725/2024: KLS regulation — the company's quality management system is approved every 2 years by external audit. Deviations must be closed within 6 months.
DS/HD 60364-serien — Håndbog 183:2025
DS/HD 60364 series is the complete technical standard for electrical installations in Denmark. It is issued as a whole in Manual 183, which has just been updated to 10th edition (September 2025). Five sections have changed in this edition:
- 015-52: Cable sizing and current ratings (new Annex E on harmonic currents).
- 025-53: Selection and installation of equipment (editorial).
- 037-701: Bathrooms and shower cabins.
- 047-706: Confined conductive spaces.
- 057-708: Campsites and leisure parks.
- 06The basic requirements in 4-41 (shock protection) 4-43 (overcurrent) and 6 (verification) remain unchanged.

New plug socket requirements from 1 January 2026
DS 60884-2-D1:2023 sets new requirements for household electrical outlets and plugs and is mandatory from 1 January 2026. The 'blind hole' type (DKA 1-3a) is permitted until 31 December 2027. New installations from 2026 must comply with the new standard. (Source: ds.dk news archive 2025/09)
