How you diagnose problems — systematically
From basic course to journeyman — alternating between school and training
If you want to work in the forest and nature and end up with a professional certificate, you must go through an education that takes place both at school and out in the field. Here we review how the parts fit together so you know what you are getting into.
§Two routes in — basic course 1 and 2
If you come directly from primary school, you start on basic course 1 (GF1). It is a broad, clarifying part that lasts about half a year. After that, you continue on basic course 2 (GF2), which is aimed at the subject itself and also lasts about half a year.
If you are older, or if it has been a while since you finished primary school, you can skip GF1 and start directly on GF2. At GF2 you get close to the heart of the trade: nature and biology, machines, tools, culture and planting care and working environment.
§Main course — school and training alternate
After the basic course the main course begins, where you are employed at an approved training company. You are at the workplace most of the time and come to school in some concentrated school periods along the way. During school stays you get both basic subjects and field subjects, and you practice the skills you need in practice.
§Entry requirements and admission
To start you normally must have passed primary school's leaving exam and meet a grade requirement in Danish and mathematics. The grade requirement can be met in several ways including if you have an agreement with an employer. Requirements for vocational educations can change over time so always check the current rules at the school or on UddannelsesGuiden before you apply.
To progress from the basic course to the main course you must have an apprenticeship agreement with a company — that is a place to receive training. Many schools help find a placement but it is a good idea to be proactive early yourself.
§How long does it take?
The total qualification typically spans several years because the training takes up a lot. The exact length depends on your background and whether you take the full basic course or start directly on GF2. School time is only part of the total program; the rest is practical training.
| Part 1 · The trunk | Content | Approximate duration |
|---|---|---|
| Basic course 1 | Broad, clarifying start (for you directly from compulsory school) | ca. ½ år |
| Basic course 2 | Trade-targeted teaching in nature, machines, care. | ca. ½ år |
| Main course | Training in a company + combined school periods | several years |
