What you can build on your trade certificate
Many think that education stops with the journeyman's certificate. But a skilled background is a solid foundation to build on further if you later want more responsibility new knowledge or a career change. Here are the typical directions.
§Shorter courses and specialisation
Closest to everyday life are the shorter courses where you keep your certificates up to date or learn to use new equipment and new methods. It is a good way to remain attractive on the job market without putting working life on hold.
§Further at technician and engineer level
If you want to go further, there are higher educations that build naturally on a green professional field. With the right access you can study further toward, among other things, technician and engineer directions within agriculture, forestry and landscape.

§Leadership, operations and independence
Some skilled workers grow into more responsibility over the years — as work leaders, foremen or operations managers. Others start their own as entrepreneurs or arborists. Here it is often a combination of professional experience, courses in management and economics and daring to take the leap that makes the difference.
§Make a plan but keep it open
You don't need to know everything in advance. Many find the direction only after a couple of years in the trade when they know what they're good at and enjoy. What matters is knowing that the paths exist — so you can seize the opportunity when it comes up.
