Quality, safety and durability in sign work
Why the right material, clean surface and secure installation mean everything
A sign is not just pretty — it must also function over time. The customer pays for the company name to still be readable in two years for the film not to bubble up and for the façade sign to sit securely attached. Therefore quality and durability are the core of the trade and they begin long before installation.
§The right material choice
Quality starts with choosing material based on use. An indoor sign and an outdoor sign have very different requirements. Sun, rain, frost and wear break down materials, and if you choose film or print not designed for the purpose, it will fade or come off. Knowing the properties and lifespan of materials is therefore crucial for a good result.
§Clean surface and correct installation
One of the most common sources of error is a poorly prepared surface. Film doesn't adhere to dirt, grease, or moisture, and the result is bubbles and edges that peel. Therefore, the surface is carefully cleaned and degreased before film is applied. The application itself requires patience to prevent air from getting under the film.
§Typical errors to avoid
- 01Text that is too small for the distance the sign is seen from
- 02For low print resolution the image becomes pixelated
- 03Incorrect foil or print for outdoor use so it fades or releases
- 04Dirty surface that causes bubbles and poor adhesion
- 05Sign that is not mounted properly and level
§Safety in workshop and assembly
Safety is also part of it. In the workshop you work with cutting tools, machines and sometimes cleaning chemicals — use the right protective equipment and follow the instructions. When installing at the customer you often work at height or near traffic, and here requirements apply for safe work, scaffolding or lift and barriers where necessary.
The skilled sign technician thinks quality and safety together from the start: the right material, the clean surface, the well-thought-out layout and the responsible assembly. Then the sign holds — and both you and the customer are confident.
