Further and continuing education — how you build further
AMU, specialization, and paths from skilled security guard to more responsibility and new trades
When you have become a skilled security guard there are many paths ahead. The trade is built so you can keep developing – both in breadth with new specialties and in height towards more responsibility and new education levels. Here are the most important opportunities.
§AMU – the short way to new skills
The most common form of further training in the sector is AMU courses (labour market training). These are short, targeted courses typically lasting from half a day to a few weeks. You can take a single course or combine several to suit the direction you want. Within security services there are several AMU courses you can specialize with.
§Specialization within security and safety
With further education you can turn your career in more specialised directions. It could for example be towards control and access tasks security at large events or towards technical areas such as alarm and surveillance systems. Each specialisation makes you more sought after and can boost both your responsibility and your salary.

§Via AMU to skilled worker — and further
For some the path to the trade has gone through AMU courses which later can give credit into the actual vocational education itself. It is a flexible model where already completed courses can count when you formalise your education. If you are already skilled AMU can conversely be the springboard to entirely new trades and industries.
§Towards technician, installer and academy level
A journeyman's certificate is also a ticket to further education. Generally it applies to vocational educations that as a qualified person you can build on towards for example technician installer or academy educations at the vocational academies that offer them. Which specific advanced educations fit best after a vocational background depends on which direction you want — within safety technology management or something completely different.
