Hygiene, safety and quality
How you turn knowledge into craft — the role of repetition and reflection
You work close to the customer's skin, and therefore hygiene is not a formality — it is the core of professionalism. Good hygiene protects both the customer, yourself and your workplace against infection and infections.
§Basic hygiene
- 01Wash and disinfect hands before and after each treatment
- 02Use clean towels and disposable materials where possible
- 03Clean and disinfect tools between customers
- 04Keep work surfaces clean and tidy
- 05Use gloves when handling treatments that may result in contact with blood or wound fluid
§Allergy and reactions
Some customers react to products or ingredients. Always ask about known allergies and be alert to signs of irritation during treatment. Stop if the skin reacts strongly.
§When you need to refer
A cosmetician is not a doctor. You must be able to tell the difference between what you can treat and what belongs with a health professional. Changes in moles suspicious rashes or persistent skin problems should be referred.
§Quality and advice
Quality is about more than a beautiful end result. It is about the customer feeling safe, well informed and receiving honest advice. A customer who gets realistic expectations and good home care becomes more satisfied in the long run.
“Hygiene is not what the customer sees — but it is what determines whether they are in safe hands.”
