§The typewriter era
In the old days the office was filled with typewriters, card files and large binders. Letters were written by hand or machine, copied with carbon paper and archived physically. A good office was a tidy office where you could quickly find the right case.
§The computer changes everything
With the computer the typewriter disappeared and the archives moved onto the screen. Word processing spreadsheets and email made work faster but also more complex. Today you are expected to know several systems collaborate digitally and keep track of many tasks at once.
