The gold and silversmith's materials
The materials in the trade are expensive and they require both care and knowledge. You must know the metals' properties understand solder flow and handle fine gemstones without damaging them.
§Precious metals
The most important metals in the trade are gold and silver often in alloys with other metals that make them stronger. Pure gold and pure silver are however relatively soft so they are mixed so they hold up to being worn.

§Gemstone
Many jewellery contains stones that must be set in a setting so they stay secure and show to their best. Stones must be handled carefully — some are hard others can be damaged by heat or shock. You learn to assess how a stone should be treated.
§Tool
The gold and silversmith's tool is fine and specialised. Much of it is operated by hand at a slow, precise pace.
