The journeyman's exam in glazier trade

The final test before you call yourself a skilled worker

The journeyman's exam is the final exam in the glazier apprenticeship, and it typically takes place in the last school period of the main course. Here you show not just what you've learned on paper — you show that you can turn the objectives from your entire apprenticeship into a concrete, correctly executed piece of work.

§What must you be able to show?

The exam tests the breadth of what you have learned in the main course: measuring and selection of measuring instruments, planning of the work process, correct choice of materials, the actual installation, and importantly quality control and documentation of your own work. So it's far from just being able to put in a windowpane — you must be able to account for your choices along the way.

§Access to the test

  • 01You must have passed all subjects in the main course school periods.
  • 02Your apprenticeship company must have issued the final training certificate with recommendation for journeyman's exam.
  • 03The practice objectives that the apprenticeship agreement presupposes must be met.
  • 04If something is not fulfilled, the school and company can in consultation with the relevant technical committee agree on an extension.

§Who assesses, and what does the grade mean?

Behind the Education Stands the Glass Master Trade's Professional Committee, Where Employers and Employees Sit Together. The Committee Organises and Supervises the Journeyman Exam and Appoints the Censors (Often Called Master Judges) Who Assess Your Assignment. When You Pass, It is the Committee that Issues Your Journeyman Certificate — the Documentation that You Have Achieved the Competencies in the Education.

§How you help a person who hears voices

  • 01Review previous exam types and grading criteria with your apprentice master in good time.
  • 02Practice documentation and quality control throughout the entire internship — not just up to the test.
  • 03Ask to be allowed to solve a complete task independently from measurement to finished installation while you are still an apprentice.
  • 04Contact the school early if you are unsure about requirements, deadlines or the practical aspects of the exam day.

Your journeyman certificate is not just proof of what you can do today — it's the access ticket to the rest of your working life in the trade.
