Glass is one of mankind's oldest materials, yet it is among the most advanced in modern construction. As a glazier, you stand in a long tradition stretching from hand-blown panes to modern panes that both insulate, screen from sun and conduct electricity.
§Glass's journey through time
For centuries, glass was expensive and difficult to produce in large, clear sheets. Only when people learned to produce uniform flat glass on a large scale did windows become something everyone could have. It changed both the houses and the trade.

§From craft to technology
Previously, the glazier's work was mostly about cutting and inserting simple panes. Today, a pane is often an advanced product: multiple layers of glass, gas-filled cavities and invisible coatings that hold heat. You need to understand how the pane is structured to install and repair it correctly.
§The craft today.
The glaziers trade is broad. You work with everything from replacing a broken pane and erecting facades to framing pictures and mounting mirrors. History shows that the trade has always developed with the materials — and it continues as glass becomes even more energy-efficient and sustainable.
