Hairdresser

As a hairdresser you work with cutting colouring and styling as well as customer service in the salon. It is creative craft where you must master the scissors and understand each customer's wishes. The training makes you a skilled hairdresser who can create the right look and at the same time give the customer a good experience.

§What do you do in everyday life?

You receive customers, talk with them about what they want, and guide them based on hair type, face shape, and wishes. You cut, color, tone, and style and work with hair structure and care. You keep your workspace and tools in order and are part of the salon's daily operations — from booking to selling products suited to the customer.

§How do you get started?

You typically start with a basic course at a vocational school where you learn the basic craft. You then need a training agreement with a salon where you alternate between school and practical training as an apprentice and get paid throughout your education while building up routine and speed on real customers.

§Way forward

With the journeyman's certificate you can work in a salon and many hairdressers eventually become self-employed with their own chair or salon. You can also specialise in for example colour setting or work with film fashion and events and you can build further with courses that keep you up to date with trends and techniques.
