How you become a better driver
Basic course, study year, main course and alternation between school and practice
Finance education is a vocational education under the main area Office, trade and business services. It trains you to be a finance assistant in banks, mortgage institutions, insurance and pension companies. The special thing about the trade is that you learn the theory at school and also get out and advise real customers about their money during your apprenticeship. When you understand how the pieces fit together, it's easier to plan your own path.
§The education is taken with EUX.
An important thing to know from the start: the finance education is offered as EUX. This means that in addition to the actual skills you also take a number of subjects at upper secondary level. You end up with both a professional certificate and study competence that opens for further education later. This is why there is a whole academic year built into the program.
§The basic course comes first
The education begins at a business college with a basic course in two parts. Basic course 1 is for you starting directly after 9th or 10th grade and is about finding your place in vocational education and getting to grips with broad subjects. Basic course 2 targets the finance trade and prepares you for the main course. Each part typically corresponds to about half a year.
If you don't come directly from primary school — for example if a couple of years have passed — you can as a starting point start directly on basic course 2.
§The study year gives study competence
After the basic course in finance education there is a study year in school. Here you work with the gymnasium EUX subjects that lift you to a level that provides access to further education. This is one of the reasons why finance education is longer than many other vocational educations.
§The main course alternates between school and practical work
In the main course you are employed by a financial company and alternate between being at work and at school in school periods. This requires a training agreement — a written agreement with a company that will train you. The school periods in the main course are held at the sector's own training facilities depending on the type of company you are in. The course ends with a vocational exam.

§How long does it take
If you start on basic course 1, the entire course lasts about four years. If you start directly on basic course 2, it is correspondingly shorter, and if you already have a high school certificate, you can start directly on the main course and complete the training in about two years. The exact length depends on your background and when you get a training agreement, so always check the specific course with the school you are applying to.
§Admission and access requirements
To enter you must in principle have completed 9th or 10th grade and meet a grade requirement in Danish and mathematics from the leaving exam. If you don't meet the requirement you can come to an entrance exam and interview at the school. Access to the main course additionally requires that you have entered a training agreement with a company.
