The finance sector today — jobs, workplaces and future

Where financial assistants work, and what digitalisation means

When you are trained as a financial assistant there are many different places you can work. The trade reaches into the entire financial sector and although the industry has changed much in recent years there is still a need for people who can advise others about their finances. Here we look at where you can end up and where the trade is heading.

§Where do financial assistants work

The classic workplaces are banks mortgage institutions insurance companies and pension companies. Depending on your specialization you may work with private customers business customers loans investments insurance or pensions. Some work in a local branch close to customers others in central functions such as credit assessment administration or compliance.

  • 02Mortgage institutions – housing loans and financing
  • 03Insurance companies — damage insurance and advice
  • 04Pension companies — savings, pension and life insurance

§Demand and job opportunities.

The financial sector is a stable part of Danish business life, and there is a continuous need for new, skilled employees as experienced ones retire. Because the education is taken with EUX and an apprenticeship agreement, many already have a job while they are training. As with all industries, demand fluctuates with the economy, but a skilled finance education is a solid foundation.

§The digitalization changes the trade

Much routine work — payments, simple loans, standard insurance — is today handled by customers themselves via apps and self-service. This does not mean the profession disappears, but that it shifts. Human advice becomes more important precisely where it is complex: home purchase, pensions, investment, business economics. You need to be able to do what an app cannot — understand the person behind the figures.

§New requirements, new opportunities

Tightened rules on money laundering, personal data and sustainable investment have created entirely new functions in the sector. Compliance, risk management and data work take up more space, and that opens career paths for those curious about that side of the profession. Tomorrow's finance assistant is just as much an advisor as a data-literate employee.

§A trade with many directions

The fine thing about the finance trade is the breadth. You can become a specialist in a narrow field, you can become a generalist in a branch, or you can use your EUX to study further. Regardless, the education gives you an understanding of economics and advice that is useful far beyond the first workplace.
