When you have your journeyman certificate you have a solid professional foundation – but you don't need to stop there. Film and tv work changes quickly and there are several paths if you want to specialize broaden or study further. Here is the overview.
§Further training and short courses.
The fastest way to stay sharp is through shorter courses. It can be new editing programs, depth in colour grading, sound design, drone filming, live streaming or specific cameras and lighting systems. In a field where tools develop all the time, continuous further education is part of the job — not a one-time affair.
§Academy and diploma level
If you want to build more theory and management on top of the craft, academy and diploma educations can be a path. §Specialization within the trade's disciplines
You can also choose to go deeper with one of the trade's disciplines and become the one the team brings in when it needs to be really good. Specialization is typically built through experience, networks, and targeted further education.
§Entrepreneurship and own business
Many film and TV-educated people end up working freelance or starting their own production company. If you go that route, it's worth building up a bit of business understanding — economics, quoting, contracts and customer care — alongside the technical.
