Another direction is the technology that lets equipment talk to each other and transfer signals: data, sound, image and control signals over cables, fibre or wirelessly. Here electronics and communications work closely together, and it is a fast-growing area because more and more equipment is connected. Understanding both the signal and the network makes you particularly useful.
§Steering and automation
A third direction lies in control and automation: electronics that make machines, systems and processes do the right thing at the right time. It combines electronics with sensors that measure the environment and often with programming that determines what should happen.
