How you diagnose problems — systematically
Basic course, main course and alternation between school and apprenticeship
Property service technician is a vocational education and follows the same basic structure as other trades in the field: a basic course at school, followed by a main course where you alternate between school and work at a company. If you understand the structure from the beginning, it is much easier to see where you are heading and what is expected of you along the way.
§Basic course 1 and basic course 2
If you come directly from 9th or 10th grade, you start on basic course 1. Here the teaching is broad so you can try several specializations and be sure of your choice before specializing. Basic course 2 is aimed at the subject itself — here you work with property systems, maintenance and working methods and prepare to go out on an apprenticeship. Each of the two basic courses typically lasts about half a year.
Has it been more than approximately two years since you completed primary school or 10th grade, in many cases you can begin directly on basic course 2 and skip basic course 1. This typically applies if you are a bit older or have done something else before applying.
§Main course — school and training alternate
When you have an apprenticeship agreement with a company you begin the main course. It's the longest part of the education and you alternate between school periods and on-the-job training. School periods come in several separate blocks — not one long stretch — and between them you solve real tasks in the company applying what you've learned.
§Total duration
If you count basic training and main course together, the education typically lasts about 3 years and 9 months. The exact length depends among other things on where you start and whether you have experience or other education that can give credit and shorten the course. If you are an adult, you can take the education under special rules (euv), where your previous experience is evaluated individually.
§Entry requirements and admission
To begin you must have completed 9th or 10th grade and as a rule have at least 02 in both Danish and math. If you don't meet the grade requirement you can often come via entrance exam and conversation at school. If you're unsure where you stand take hold of the study guidance before you apply.
A central point is the apprenticeship: education presupposes that you at some point get a training agreement with a company. You can start the school part before you have an agreement but the main course requires that you are in training. So it is a good idea to start looking for an apprenticeship early.
