Property service technician.

As a property service technician you keep buildings in top condition. You are responsible for operation maintenance and care of everything from residential areas and schools to offices and sports facilities and you ensure that both the buildings technical systems and outdoor areas work day after day. You become the one residents and users come to when something needs to work.

§What do you do in everyday life?

The everyday is varied: one moment you are checking heating and ventilation systems, the next you are fixing a leaky tap, mowing grass, clearing snow or receiving a tradesperson. You plan inspections, keep an eye on technical systems and talk to the people who live and work in the property.

§How do you get started?

You start with a basic course at a vocational school and then find an apprenticeship with, for example, a housing association, a municipality or a service company. As an apprentice you get paid and the education alternates between school and practical training so you learn both the theory and practical skills.

§The way forward

With the journeyman's certificate you can work as a property service technician heat master or operations manager in housing associations municipalities and private companies. With experience and further training you can move to leading an entire operations team or specialise in energy optimisation and sustainable building management.
