How you don't forget the patient as a person

Basic course, main course and alternation between school and workshop

The education to bicycle and motorcycle mechanic is a vocational education under the main area of technology, construction, and transport. It is structured like most Danish vocational educations: a basic course at school first, and then a main course where you alternate between attending school and working as an apprentice in a business. Throughout, the practical and theoretical are woven together.

§The basic course — two parts of 20 weeks each

If you come directly from 9th or 10th grade, you start basic course 1 (GF1). Here you explore a broader subject area and strengthen the basic school and workshop subjects. Basic course 2 (GF2) is aimed at the subject itself: here you learn the basic moves and the theory that prepare you to begin an apprenticeship. Each of the two basic courses lasts 20 weeks.

If you already have a gymnasium education or are 25 years old, you can skip GF1 and start directly on GF2 or a vocational variant. This means that two students in the same class can have very different courses behind them.

§Main course — levels and specializations

The craft is divided into a tier 1 and two specialties on tier 2. Tier 1 is moped mechanic. If you want to go further, you can finish with one of the specialties on tier 2: bicycle mechanic or motorcycle mechanic. Motorcycle mechanic builds on tier 1, so here you carry out both the moped part and the specialty.

Step / specialtyDuration of main course (young)School instruction
Step 1 — moped mechanic2 år og 3 mdr.15 weeks, at least three school terms
Step 2 — bicycle mechanic2 år og 9 mdr.20 weeks, at least four school terms
Step 2 — motorcycle mechanican additional 1 year and 3 months on top of level 110 weeks, at least two school terms

If you count basic course and main course together, the entire training lasts from 3 years and 3 months to 4 years and 6 months depending on which level or specialty you complete.

§School periods and internships alternate

On the main course, you are not in school all the time. School instruction is divided into several school periods, and between them you work at your apprenticeship. This is where the theory from school becomes routine in your hands — and it is the company that takes care of far the majority of your overall training.

§Entry requirements and admission

For it not to be carried out
