§ 02 — Become Technical insulation
Technical insulation is about clothing pipes, ducts, and tanks with the right insulation so heat stays where it should, cold does not cause condensation, and fire is slowed. In an AMU course in technical insulation you learn the fundamentals: how to calculate the right thickness, fold sheets so they fit around bends, and perform pipe, duct, and fire insulation properly. You become a technician in a profession where precision and understanding of heat count.
§What do you do in everyday life?
A technician in technical insulation measures, calculates and cuts insulation material and covers it with e.g. PVC foil or sheeting so it both insulates and looks right. You work with pipes and bends, ventilation ducts, tanks and cooler pipes — and you adapt the solution depending on whether the task is heating, cooling or fire. It is a trade where a good layout and a clean final finish is what separates the craftsperson from the amateur.

§How do you get started?
AMU courses in technical insulation are short, practical programs that are open to both newcomers to the trade and experienced workers who want credentials for the basics. If you want to go all the way, the trade is also available as a vocational education with basic course and internship at a company. Talk to a vocational school or AMU center about which path suits your situation.
§Way forward
Technical insulation is a profession with great demand because energy requirements and district heating expansion only make insulation more important. With experience you can specialize in, for example, industry, offshore, or fire insulation, become a crew lead or work manager, and move towards measuring and estimating. It is a craft where skill is directly felt in the energy bill.
