Studiemateriale

This study guide is not about the cleaning trade itself — you find the technical subject matter calculators and templates under the cleaning trade. Instead we look at the actual training path: what an AMU course program in cleaning and facilities is like how FLEX package at AMU SYD is structured what it costs which certificate you get and how you sign up. The goal is that you know exactly what you are getting into before you register.

§What is AMU — and what is a FLEX package?

AMU stands for labor market education. These are short, skills-providing courses typically lasting from a single day to a couple of weeks and aimed at specific job functions in the labor market. Unlike a vocational education (EUD), there is no long alternation between school and apprenticeship – you take one or more defined courses, each completed with an AMU certificate.

At AMU SYD, commercial cleaning is organized in a FLEX model. A FLEX package is a course package where the most sought-after individual courses are put together in one coherent program — but where you are free to take the entire package or pick the individual courses you need. Commercial cleaning FLEX is described by AMU SYD as a course package with their six most popular topics combined in one program, which can be taken as a whole (approx. 15-16 days) or as individual courses of 1-6 days each. This allows you to tailor the program to your everyday life and current level.

§How you create the right conditions for sleep and rest

AMU SYD's area for cleaning and facility management contains Commercial Cleaning FLEX as an entry package plus three further tracks: cleaning services (quality, customer contact, and planning), damage services (cleanup and remediation after water, fire, or moisture damage), and food hygiene (hygiene in kitchens and food companies). Commercial Cleaning FLEX combines the most popular topics – including personal and general hygiene, use of agents and machines, ergonomics and work environment, planning of cleaning work, and first aid – in one program.

Track / packageWhat it gives you
Commercial cleaning FLEX.The foundation: hygiene, agents, machines, ergonomics, planning and first aid
Cleaning serviceQuality, customer contact and work organisation
Damage serviceHandling of damage from water fire and moisture
Food hygieneHygiene in kitchens and food companies

The course appeals both to you who are completely new to the industry and to you who already work with cleaning and want to raise your level. According to AMU SYD the target group for Commercial Cleaning FLEX is "anyone who wants to start or further develop skills for a career in the cleaning industry" — no prior experience is required to start.

§Access and admission

AMU courses are open to a broad audience: you can participate whether you are employed, self-employed, or unemployed. AMU SYD states no formal professional admission requirements for Commercial Cleaning FLEX. A special aspect of the subsidy is the so-called 5-year rule: if you already have an education higher than a vocational education, the right to continuing education funding may be limited – however, you can still take the course itself. The rules have exceptions, so clarify your specific situation with the course provider.

§What does it cost — and what subsidies can you get?

There is participant payment on AMU courses and it depends on which courses you choose and whether you are employed or unemployed. AMU SYD states directly that "the price depends on which courses you choose and whether you are unemployed or employed". The exact price for a specific course you will find on voksenuddannelse.dk when you look up the course.

If you are employed, you (or your employer) can apply for VEU compensation while you are on the course during working hours. For 2026, the rate is 137.47 DKK per hour, corresponding to up to 5,086.39 DKK per week at full time (max. 37 hours). Transport allowance can also be applied for to cover travel to and from the course. The compensation presupposes, among other things, that you are an employee or self-employed in a CVR-registered company, and that you are not simultaneously receiving other public support such as SU, pension or cash assistance.

§Proof and further path

Every AMU course concludes with an AMU certificate. If you complete the entire Commercial Cleaning FLEX course, you get, according to AMU SYD, a certificate documenting your competences in cleaning and first aid — a document you can use to show an employer that you master the fundamental disciplines of the trade. If you want to go further, the cleaning courses can be a springboard toward a more formal qualification as a cleaning technician and later skilled service assistant, where you build a whole occupational profile over time.

§How to register

  • 01Find the course on voksenuddannelse.dk — here you see dates, exact price and can register digitally.
  • 02Check start dates at AMU SYD; new courses start continuously throughout the year
  • 03If you are employed: agree with your employer whether VEU compensation and any transport allowance will be applied for — this also happens via voksenuddannelse.dk.
  • 04If you are unemployed: talk to your job centre or unemployment fund about whether the course is part of your job plan.
  • 05If you are in doubt about the composition of the FLEX package, you can contact AMU SYD's course secretariat for guidance.

§Good study tips

  • 01Decide in advance whether you'll take the whole package together or pick individual courses — it determines both time and economics.
  • 02Show up consistently: AMU certification requires you to complete the course.
  • 03Use the subject's own articles, calculators, and templates on Discebo along the way — they expand the practical material the course doesn't go into depth on.
  • 04Save your AMU certificates together; they count when you later want to pursue further towards cleaning technician or service assistant.
