§ 02 — Become Plastic, epoxy & asbestos
Overview
This course area brings together three things that have in common that they require documentation and safety management: working with plastic with epoxy and isocyanates and with asbestos. You learn both to perform the work professionally correctly and to protect yourself and others from the health hazards that come with the materials. The result is that you are allowed to perform tasks that others legally cannot touch.
What do you do in everyday life?
With plastic welding you join plates pipes and membranes — for example in tank systems chemical environments and drains — and use methods such as electrofusion to create tight durable joints. If you work with epoxy and isocyanates you handle adhesives casting compounds and coatings safely. And in asbestos you plan and carry out removal so dangerous fibres do not spread.

How do you get started?
These are short AMU courses, and several of them conclude with a statutory certificate. You do not need a long education to participate — the courses are aimed at both unskilled and skilled workers who need to be able to take on a particular type of task. An AMU centre or a vocational school can tell you which certificates your desired work requires.
Way forward
These certificates are typically specialisations you add on top of a craft background — for example as a metal fabricator, industrial or construction worker, or within building and demolition. They make you more versatile and open up niche tasks, and combined with experience can lead you towards foreman or crew leader roles, where you have responsibility for safety on site.
