Green behaviour across trades — from craftsmanship to office
Where the largest resource gains hide in different trades
Green transition is not the same in a truck, on a construction site and in an office. The greatest gains lie in different places depending on what trade you are in. Knowing your own trade's climate buttons is the key to using your energy where it matters — rather than doing symbolic things while the big waste continues.
§Construction and crafts
Here much of the burden lies in the materials and waste. Correct measurement so you don't order and discard too much, source sorting of construction waste so clean fractions can be reused, and reuse of materials where responsible, make a big difference. Also the energy consumption on site — heating, drying and machinery — can often be trimmed.
§Transport and logistics
In transport, it is especially about fuel. Route planning that avoids empty running, good loading factor so you make fewer trips with more cargo, vehicle maintenance and a calm, forward-thinking driving style reduce both emissions and costs. Here, Scope 1 is often large and directly controllable.
§Production
In production, the gains are in material utilisation, energy-efficient machines and in avoiding faults and rework. Each scrapped unit carries its entire production carbon footprint with it. Therefore, quality and sustainability are two sides of the same coin here — what is done right the first time saves both resources and money.
§Service and office
On offices and in service, the direct consumption is often less, but there are still gains: energy for buildings and IT equipment, paper and print consumption, purchases, and waste. A large — and overlooked — lever is procurement and supplier selection because much of the footprint here lies in what you buy (Scope 3) rather than in your own operations.

Green behaviour works best when it is concrete and linked to the trade you know. Those who do the work know where the materials and energy really disappear — and are therefore the ones who can best point to the actions that make a real difference.
