Modular articulated vehicles of 25.25 m are permitted on certain routes in Denmark. Here is what distinguishes them from standard articulated vehicles (18.75 m / 16.50 m), what they require, and what happens at border crossing.
Introduction
Since the modular vehicle train system was introduced, specific lorry combinations of up to 25.25 m and up to 60 tonnes permitted total weight can run on approved routes in Denmark. This is significantly more than normal limits, and there are special requirements attached to it.

Requirements for articulated lorries
- 01Driving only on route network approved by the Road Directorate — always check if your route is approved.
- 02Requirements for construction: special couplings, rear axle steering and type approval of the combination.
- 03Drivers must typically have documented experience with long combinations.
- 04Modular articulated vehicles are normally not permitted to cross borders to other EU countries without special permission.
