If you want to drive a truck commercially, you must have a qualification certificate with code 95 on your driver's license. Here is what the education entails, what the directive requires, and what is new in BEK 412/2025.
Introduction
Code 95 is an EU-wide symbol on the driving license showing that the holder has completed the basic qualification training for professional drivers. The requirement comes from EU Directive 2003/59/EF which is now codified in Directive (EU) 2022/2561 — it is the version that today applies as EU law.
The basic education
- 01Includes: traffic safety, efficient driving, cargo and passenger handling, legislation and maintenance.
- 02Duration: approx. 280 teaching hours (accelerated course possible in combination with driving license training).
- 03You can take C/C+E from 18 years old (instead of normally 21 years old) when you follow the training with code 95.
- 04Code 95 printed on the back of the driving license in section 12 and/or on the qualification certificate (CPC card).
Further training (35 hours per 5 years).
