How to work it out

  1. 1180 DKK · 37 hours · 52 / 12 = 28,860.00 DKKA year has 52 weeks. Divided by 12 months, that gives the pay for an average month.
  2. 228,860.00 − 0.00 − 99.00 = 28,761.00 DKKPension and ATP are deducted first. The rest is what the labour market contribution is calculated on.
  3. 328,761.00 · 8 % = 2,300.88 DKK in labour market contributionEveryone who earns money pays 8% labour market contribution. It is deducted before tax.
  4. 428,761.00 − 2,300.88 = 26,460.12 DKKWhat is left is called A-income. That is what tax is calculated on.
  5. 526,460.12 − 4,508.00 = 21,952.12 DKKThe allowance is the part of your pay you pay no tax on. It is on your tax card.
  6. 621,952.12 · 37.06 % = 8,135.46 DKK in income taxThe withholding rate is your tax as a percentage: municipal tax + bottom-bracket tax (+ church tax if you are a member of the Church of Denmark).
  7. 726,460.12 − 8,135.46 = 18,324.66 DKK paid outThis is what lands in your account.

The formula

labour market contribution = 8% · (pay − pension − ATP)

Danish Labour Market Contribution Act § 1: 8.0% in 2026.

income tax = (A-income − allowance) · withholding rate

Danish Withholding Tax Act § 46: the withholding rate on what is left after the allowance.

paid out = A-income − income tax

A calculation to play with — not your payslip. Your real pay may differ a little: the payroll system rounds, and the allowance on your tax card is often bigger than in the example (e.g. employment allowance and travel). Middle-bracket and top-bracket tax are not included.
