Plumbing and energy·Studiemateriale

Studiemateriale

Plumbing and energy education is a vocational education (VET) where you alternate between school and practical training at an apprenticeship and end up with a journeyman certificate as a skilled plumber. This study guide explains the education path itself — how the course is structured how you are admitted what awaits the exams and what you can build on. The technical subject matter about water heat and energy can be found in the subject's articles calculators and templates; here it is about the path through education. At HANSENBERG teaching takes place at C.F. Tietgens Vej 11 in Kolding.

§How you diagnose problems — systematically

The education consists of a basic course and a main course. The basic course is taken at school while the main course mainly takes place at a company (the apprenticeship) with shorter school visits in between. At the apprenticeship you work under professional supervision and receive apprentice wages.

  • 01Basic course 1 (GF1): about half a year at the vocational school. Here you get a taste of several courses in technology, construction and energy before you choose a direction. GF1 is aimed at you coming directly from 9th or 10th grade — or up to two years after secondary school.
  • 02Basic course 2 (GF2): about half a year, targeted at plumbing and energy. You finish with a basic course test. If you start more than two years after primary school, you start directly in GF2.
  • 03Main course: the longest part, where you alternate between apprenticeship and school periods and are trained within your chosen specialization toward the final exam.

§Specialties – and what you can choose at HANSENBERG

On a national basis, according to ug.dk, there are four specialties on the education: VVS installation technician, sheet metal worker and VVS, VVS and energy specialist, and ventilation technician. At HANSENBERG, you can choose between two of them.

  • 01Plumbing and energy specialist: works with heating systems — from gas boilers to district heating and heat pumps — as well as water heat ventilation and kitchen and bathroom installations. This specialization can be taken with EUX at HANSENBERG.
  • 02Plumbing technician: focuses on water, heating and gas installations.

§EUX—journeyman certificate plus higher education diploma

If you want to keep the door open to higher education, you can choose EUX. With EUX you get both a journeyman certificate and a high school exam that gives access to higher educations. In return, the course is extended because extra school stays are added. At HANSENBERG, EUX is offered on the plumbing and energy specialist track.

§The final test

The main course concludes with an exam — on many trainings called the journeyman's exam — in what you have learned. If you pass, you receive your journeyman's certificate, which is the proof that you are a skilled and fully trained plumber. Prepare yourself continuously: the exam is based on the entire course, not just the last school period.

§Good study tips

  • 01Seek an apprenticeship early. It guarantees your admission to school and secures the important interaction between theory and practice.
  • 02Keep track of the deadlines: March 1 at 12:00 on Optagelse.dk for applicants directly from elementary school — always check the current deadline on the school's page.
  • 03Write it down in the internship. What you do at your apprenticeship is often exactly what you will be tested on in the final exam.
  • 04Use the school's company consultant and advisers — they help with both apprenticeship search and course selection.
  • 05Consider EUX from the start if you already dream of further education — it is easier to choose it at the start than later.

§What can you build further on?

As a skilled plumber you can further your education via AMU courses in technical installations and energy and you can apply further to business academy and professional bachelor programmes in among other things energy installation and construction. If you took EUX you have access to a wider range of further education. Plumbing plays a central role in the green transition so further education in among other things heat pumps and energy optimisation can be an obvious way forward.
