Monitoring from waking to stable patient

§Immediately after the intervention

  • 01Place the animal in a quiet, soft, and monitored bed.
  • 02Keep the animal warm — anesthesia lowers body temperature.
  • 03Ensure free and unobstructed breathing.
  • 04Do not leave the animal unattended before it's stable.

  • 01Follow breathing, circulation, and consciousness level at regular intervals.
  • 02Assess pain and provide pain relief according to prescription.
  • 03Check the operation site for bleeding or swelling.
  • 04Note observations and given medication in the journal.

§When the animal wakes up

  • 01Offer water and food when the animal is ready per instructions.
  • 02Make sure that the animal doesn't lick or bite the surgical site.
  • 03Assess whether the animal is stable enough for discharge.
  • 04Prepare guidance and medicine for the owner.
