Blood, urine and faeces — correctly taken and handled
A test result is only as good as the sample behind it. Wrongly taken wrongly stored or wrongly labelled sample can give a misleading result — and a wrong diagnosis. Therefore discipline around sample-taking is the core of laboratory work.

§Good sampling
- 01Prepare equipment and test glass before the animal is fixed.
- 02Restrains the animal gently so the sample can be taken calmly and safely.
- 03Use correct technique and clean/sterile equipment according to test type.
- 04Take a sufficient amount in the correct glasses.
- 05Avoid contaminating the sample and handle it carefully.
§Storage and shipping
Many samples deteriorate over time or with incorrect temperature. Some must be analyzed quickly others must be cooled or treated in a certain way. Always follow the instructions for each individual sample and for the laboratory the sample is sent to.

§Safety and hygiene
Sample material may contain infectious agents. Wear gloves, handle sharp objects responsibly, and dispose of needles and sample material according to regulations. Good hygiene protects you, other patients, and the reliability of the next test result.
