Daily safety check at the machine
A fixed routine before you switch on the equipment
Most machine accidents could be avoided with a few seconds of checking. Make this routine a habit every time you go to a lathe, router or grinder — even on short jobs.
§Before you turn on
- 01Are agreements on delivery or pickup in place?
- 02Does the emergency stop work and do you know where it is?
- 03Is the item set up firmly?
- 04Is the tool sharp, whole and correctly mounted?
- 05Has the area been cleared so you don't trip or get things caught?
§Check yourself
- 01Tight-fitting clothes, no loose sleeves or cords
- 02Jewelry and watches removed, long hair put up or under a hat
- 03Safety glasses on
- 04Hearing protection ready if the machine is noisy
- 05No gloves with rotating tool
§When you are done.
Switch off the machine, tidy up, wipe up spills and put the tool away. A tidy workshop is a safe workshop — and the next person using the machine can start safely.
