Connections brakes and aids in preparation

The equipment in preparation is robust and built for heavy loads. Most of it is about connecting cars braking them safely and checking that everything works.

§Connections

The clutch connects the cars mechanically so they can pull and push each other. You learn to connect and disconnect safely and to see if a connection is as it should be.

§The brake system

Trains typically brake with compressed air through brake hoses connected between cars. When air is connected and tested you can check brakes work throughout train. It is system you must understand thoroughly

§Assistive devices for goods

With goods wagons loading and unloading may be included. Here aids such as loading machines are used. You learn to work safely with cargo so the weight is distributed correctly and secured.

§Protective equipment

Visible work clothing, safety footwear and gloves are part of each day. On a station area with rolling stock, being seen by colleagues and drivers is part of your safety.
