After the journeyman certificate: further and continuing education

What can you build on top of as a qualified train cleaner?

When you are trained as a train clearer you have a professional foundation you can build a lot on. Vocational educations are made so that a journeyman can move forward – either by specializing deeper in the industry or by studying further towards a technical or management role.

§Courses and specialisation in the industry

The quickest path forward goes through further education in the form of courses. The industry and labour market education offer shorter programmes where you can acquire new documentation, learn to operate new equipment or go deeper into specific tasks. It keeps you updated and can open up tasks you otherwise would not be allowed to do.

  • 01Short courses and certificates that expand what you can and may do
  • 02Specialization in specific equipment, apparatus, or work areas
  • 03Upskilling as trains and technology evolve

§The way towards leadership

With experience you can take more responsibility — as the one who trains new people coordinates the work or acts as a foreman. Want to go that way leadership courses and further education in planning and personnel management can be a good next step.

§Higher education

A journeyman's certificate can also be a springboard to further education. Many vocational graduates build on with a vocational academy education — for example within logistics transport or technology — which typically lasts a couple of years and combines theory with practice-based knowledge. If you take an eux along the way you also have the secondary school subjects that may be required to study further.

§Keep the options open

The most important thing you take from your education is the ability to work safely independently and responsibly. Those competencies reach far beyond train marshaling and make it easier to change tracks later if you get the desire for something new.

A journeyman's certificate closes no doors — it opens the ones you did not know existed.
