Checklist: setup of sound and lights for event

A structured procedure from arrival to ready

When it gets busy up to an event it is easy to forget a step. This checklist is intended as a memory aid that you can adapt to your specific task. Use it as a starting point and adjust it to fit your equipment and workplace.

§1. Before you start

  • 01PLACEHOLDER_7

  • 03Find the power: where are you allowed to connect and how much can it draw?
  • 04Clarify schedule and who does what on the team

§2. Rigging and hanging

  • 01Assess weight and load capacity before anything is hung up
  • 02Use approved equipment and check wires and shackles for damage
  • 03Cordon off during work so no one stands under a load in the air

§3. Cabling and power

  • 01Pull cables so no one trips over them — tape or mats over walkways
  • 02Keep high current and signal cables separate to avoid noise
  • 03Use fault current protection and keep connections dry

§4. Test in front of audience

  • 01Sound check all sources and listen for hum and errors
  • 02Run the light through and check that everything responds as it should
  • 03Have a plan B ready: what do you do if something fails in the middle?
