Checklist: Preparation for journeyman exam
Use the final weeks purposefully
§Four weeks before
- 01Review the professional goals for the main program with your trainer.
- 02Ask for a list of which work processes you are expected to be able to perform independently.
- 03Identify the three-five areas where you feel least confident yourself.
- 04Arrange extra practice time on the weakest areas with your practice supervisor.
§Two weeks before
- 01Practice the central workflows under time pressure, as in the real test.
- 02Get a colleague to observe and give feedback on at least two complete work processes.
- 03Repeat hygiene and safety routines so they stick completely.
- 04Check practical details: meeting time, place, and what you must bring yourself
| Subject | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning and turning | ||
| Sorting and calibration | ||
| Preservation (salting) | ||
| Hygiene and self-control | ||
| Safe machine operation | ||
| Oral justification for procedures |
§The day before
- 01Lay out work clothes and any own equipment.
- 02Plan transport and meeting time so you don't start the test stressed
- 03Sleep normally – avoid squeezing in a last, long practice night.
- 04Write down the three most important things you want to remember to mention if asked why.
§The actual day
- 01Arrive in good time and check your workplace before you start.
- 02Work at your own pace — pushing too high speed often compromises quality.
- 03Tell on an ongoing basis what you are doing and why if the examiner asks.
- 04Clear and clean your place as you normally do — it's also part of the trade.
