Concrete measures against methacrylate allergy and chemical exposure in the laboratory
§Personal protective equipment
- 01Use nitrile gloves rather than latex when in contact with unmixed resin, monomer or acrylic.
- 02Change gloves immediately if they have been in contact with undiluted resin or monomer.
- 03Wear protective glasses if there is a risk of splashing from adhesives bonding or liquid acrylic.
- 04Use respiratory protection when working with chemicals where the safety data sheet recommends it.
§Handling and post-treatment
- 01Let printed parts undergo full UV post-curing before handling without gloves.
- 02Remove remaining unreacted resin from print platform and work table regularly not only on cleaning day.
- 03Work with local extraction when heating or grinding acrylic where vapors are released.
- 04Store resin and monomer light-tight and sealed so the material doesn't harden or evaporate unnecessarily.
§Documentation and preparedness
- 01Safety data sheets for all chemicals used are available and reviewed by everyone who uses them.
- 02New employees and students are introduced to the hazards of methacrylates before working independently with them.
- 03Eye wash equipment is easily accessible and works, checked at regular intervals.
