How much fluoride has the child received per kg?
Answer: It happens that a child eats from the tube, and the parent calls the clinic. The important number is fluoride in mg per kg body weight. In the literature, 5 mg fluoride per kg is used as the dose where serious symptoms can occur and where immediate action is needed (Whitford 1987). The calculator works out mg and mg/kg from the amount and the toothpaste's ppm and shows how many grams correspond to 5 mg/kg for this specific child. Always call the Poison Line (82 12 12 12), which decides what should happen.
Fluorid (mg) = tandpasta (g) × ppm ÷ 1.000 (ppm = mg fluorid pr. kg = pr. 1.000 g)
Pr. kg = fluorid (mg) ÷ barnets vægt (kg)
Graensen i litteraturen: 5 mg/kg (probably toxic dose, Whitford 1987)

It means: Hun har fået 5.18 mg/kg, altså 104 % af grænsen. Ring straks til Giftlinjen eller 112.
Et barn på 18 kg har spist ca. 5 g af en receptpligtig tandpasta med 5.000 ppm.
It means: Barnet har fået 1.39 mg/kg. For dette barn svarer 18 g af denne tandpasta til grænsen på 5 mg/kg, så små mængder tæller hurtigt.
1 g tandpasta med 1.450 ppm indeholder 1,45 mg fluorid.
Gang barnets vægt med 5. Det er det antal mg, der svarer til grænsen. Sammenlign med det barnet har fået.
