Roofing is based on materials that can form a tight, durable surface. Here we review the most important materials and the equipment you work with.
§Roofing felt (bitumen)
Roofing felt is based on bitumen and is one of the trade's most important materials. It is suitable for flat roofs and roofs with low slope, where it forms a continuous, watertight membrane. Roofing felt is typically laid in multiple layers, with an underlay and a surface.
§Foils and plastics
Foils and plastics are flexible membranes that can be used as an alternative or supplement to roofing felt. They are chosen among other things based on the type of roof and the joints are made so they are tight.

§Tools and equipment
The roofer uses equipment to lay, join, and seal materials. The most important thing is that the seams are tight and the material is firmly secured. The work also requires equipment to safely work at height.
§The right substrate
A roof is only as good as what it lies on. Therefore the substrate insulation and underlayer are just as important as the visible membrane. Good preparatory work with the right materials is part of a tight roof.
