Checklist: preparation and assembly of cores

How to ensure the core is seated correctly before the mould closes

An incorrectly placed or damaged core is discovered only after the part is cast — and then it is too late. Use this checklist every time you prepare and assemble cores.

§Before the core is used

  • 01Is the core free of cracks, loose sand and moisture?
  • 02Does the core size match the drawing and the core bed in the mould?
  • 03Is the surface clean and free of residue from the core box?

§Upon placement in the mould

  • 01Is the core fixed and centered in the core seat?
  • 02Is there the correct, uniform distance between core and form wall all the way around?
  • 03Have multiple cores in the same item been checked for mutual collision?

§Just before the mold closes

  • 01Has a final visual inspection of the core and form cavity been performed?
  • 02Are inlet and air ducts free and unobstructed by core?
  • 03Is it noted which core batch was used in case a fault needs to be traced later?
